Dan Hurley: UConn Huskies Men's Basketball Coach

Early Life and Career

Dan Hurley was born on January 16, 1973, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He is the son of Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley Sr. Hurley grew up idolizing David Rivers, Charles Smith, and Felix Rivera, who played for his father's St. Anthony High School basketball team.

Hurley played college basketball at Seton Hall University from 1991 to 1995. He was a three-time captain and helped the Pirates reach the NCAA Tournament three times. After graduating from Seton Hall, Hurley began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Wagner College.

Head Coaching Career

In 2001, Hurley was hired as the head coach at Wagner College. He led the Seahawks to four Northeast Conference regular season championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2010, Hurley was hired as the head coach at the University of Rhode Island.

Hurley led the Rams to two Atlantic 10 Tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2018, Hurley was hired as the head coach at the University of Connecticut.

UConn Huskies

In six seasons as the head coach of the UConn Huskies, Hurley has compiled a record of 141-58 (70.9%). He has led the Huskies to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a national championship victory in 2023.

Hurley is one of the most successful coaches in UConn history. He has been named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times and the Naismith National Coach of the Year once.

Personal Life

Hurley is married to Andrea Hurley. They have three children: Danny, Mia, and Shane.
